The Old Red Courthouse
1892 Romanesque Revival Style
Constructed of Pecos Red Sandstone &
Arkansas Gray Granite. |
The cities of Dallas and Fort Worth Texas make up one of the largest
metropolitan areas in the United States. It is a great place to
spend a few days, either as a tourist or a business traveler. (Well,
you cant work all the time can you?)
There is a wealth of things to do in the area, starting with great
restaurants (particularly barbecue and Tex-Mex) and of course
there's a great night life with plenty of clubs, saloons, and bars.
The cities also boast an incredible range of professional and
collegiate sports venues such as the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers,
NASCAR, or the Cotton Bowl to name just a few. |
|
One of the best amusement parks in the
world is here too, Six Flags Over Texas with its towering coasters,
like the renowned Texas Giant and the awesome hypercoaster Titan.
For hot summer days (some call it sub-tropical) the Hurricane Harbor
water park is outstanding. There are also great zoos in Dallas and
Fort Worth, a number of historic neighborhoods to explore, and
numerous art, history, and natural science museums. |

For great views of the Dallas Fort Worth skyline, a trip up the
Reunion Tower is in order. There are three levels in the dome at the
top of the tower. At the highest level youll find The Dome, a great
relaxing cocktail lounge with evening entertainment. Antares, a full
service contemporary restaurant is on the second level, and the
observation deck is on the first level. There is a nominal admission
fee for the observation deck. The restaurant and lounge are both on
slowly revolving floors.

Dealey Plaza and the
old Texas School Book Depository
|
Texas School Book
Depository
In 1963, this building housed the Texas School Book Depository which
entered into infamy as the building from which Lee Harvey Oswald was
alleged to have fired the shots that killed the President John F.
Kennedy.
The building is now known as the Dallas County Administration
Building and houses The Sixth Floor Museum that chronicles the
presidents assassination.
The building dates back to 1883 when it was built as the
headquarters of the Southern Rock Island Plow Company. |

Dallas is filled with
magnificent western themed sculptures and there are no finer
examples than those at Pioneer Plaza. In this quiet downtown
city park you'll experience the largest bronze monument in the
world. Spread over this four acre park are 40 large bronze
Texas Longhorns and several bronze cowboys on horse back.
These masterfully executed sculptures are by the artist Robert
Sommers. |
