Why Zealots (Spin Doctors) hate
math
Okay sure, math and its seemingly endless strings of
numbers can be pretty intimidating and at times, very confusing as
well!
Math, however, can be a very powerful and useful tool . . . it can
create clarity, erase doubt, forecast futures, build nations
and yes, even make you rich (if you so desire.) But perhaps
the most important role for math is as the revealer of truth!
Numbers, my friends, do not lie!
Still, you must be on guard and keep your brain "fully engaged"
because numbers can be used to mislead and confuse!
There are those who count on
our apathy or 'fear of math' . . . they count on the fact that not
one in fifty people will ever think to check their numbers, or
challenge them when they intentionally use numbers 'out of context'
to confuse you.
They know that if it sounds good . . . then that's good enough!
So why then do I say zealots (aka, fanatics, spin doctors, liars, and other nar-do-wells)
hate math?
Well in truth, they actually only hate math when you (their intended
sucker) take the time to do the basic math and connect-the-dots on
your own. When you figure out that the numbers simply don't
support their claims . . . they get very, very annoyed!
Now I'm sure you're wondering why
would anyone lie about numbers, statistics, facts ? Well . . . it's all the usual
things; money, power, politics, and greed.
Now let's Look at some interesting
examples . . . consider this a short course on
"connecting-the-dots." |
|
The World Population Hysteria
There is general hysteria over the
world’s population being out of control. Man is killing the planet
right?
Well, let's examine the numbers for
ourselves.
There are 6,602,224,175
(or 6.6 billion) people on this planet.
Wow! That is a lot of people . . . a very big and very scary number!
When you do the simple math however, you will find that . . .
every man, woman, and child on earth could live in one city the size
of Texas . . . and live fairly comfortably!
(Now remember this is math not politics or philosophy so just
consider this as a mathematical example.)
The Calculation:
| Total World
Population |
6,602,224,175 |
| First: divide
everyone on earth into family groups of five. |
1,320,444,835 family groups |
| Second:
families get a U.S. average sized residential lot.
|
100x58 ft
(5,805 sq.ft.) |
The earth's
land mass = 29% of the planets surface.
(the other 71% is water) |
57,268,900
square miles of land |
The U.S. State
of Texas is 0.47% of the world's land mass.
(not even a half of one percent) |
268,601
square miles |
Let's convert
this to acres.
(1 sq. mi. = 640 acres) |
171,904,640
acres |
Now divide it
into 1/8 acre lots.
(the 100x58 ft lots) |
1,375237,120 (1/8 acre lots) |
|
So how many family groups do
we have on earth? |
1,320,444,835 family groups |
| Now subtract the number of
family groups from the number of lots. |
- |
| That leaves us
quite a few extra 100x58 foot lots |
54,792,285
extra lots. |
| Lets use those
extra lots for streets and sidewalks! |
|
Conclusion:
Every man, woman, and child on
earth could live in one city the size of Texas . . . and not
be too crowded! |
So now I ask you . . . if the
entire population of humans on our planet can easily fit into an
area that is less then one half of one percent of the earth's total
land mass . . . how much trouble can the planet really be in?
For comparison . . . the world's population takes up about as much
space as a mosquito landing on a soccer ball!
